Amboseli is Kenya at its most theatrical when the mountain is out: elephants moving through swamp and dust, Kilimanjaro holding the horizon.
The park is compact, which makes it excellent early or late in a longer Kenya itinerary. Observation Hill, the swamps and the open plains give very different photographs in a single day.
We often pair Amboseli with a private conservancy stay, then continue to Tsavo or the coast. The point is not to collect parks, but to give the elephants enough time to become the story rather than a drive-by.
