Ngorongoro is a half-day or full-day of extraordinary density: lion, elephant, buffalo, flamingo-lined lakes and, with luck, rhino, all inside a collapsed caldera.
The descent is early, the floor can be busy, and the light is best before the day warms. A rim lodge the night before keeps the morning unhurried.
