King’s Palace Museum, Nyanza

Nyanza, Rwanda

About this experience

The King’s Palace Museum in Nyanza, the traditional seat of Rwanda’s monarchy, includes a faithful reconstruction of a royal palace built of thatch and wood, as well as a later colonial-era royal residence.

Guides explain the kingdom’s history and customs, and the museum’s long-horned Inyambo cattle, still cared for with traditional songs, are a highlight. It makes a good stop on the road between Kigali and Nyungwe.
