Gorilla & Primate

Kibale Forest Chimpanzee Tracking

Kibale National Park, near Fort Portal, Uganda

About this experience

Kibale National Park has one of the highest densities of primates in Africa and is Uganda’s best-known chimpanzee destination. Rangers lead small groups along forest trails to find habituated chimpanzee communities, following their calls through the canopy.

Once the chimps are found, you spend about an hour watching them feed, groom and move through the forest. Other primates, such as red colobus and L’Hoest’s monkeys, are often seen on the way.

Highlights

  • High chimpanzee encounter rates
  • Several other primate species
  • Easier terrain than gorilla treks

Good to know
