Mount Kenya Foothills Day Hike

Mount Kenya National Park, Kenya

About this experience

Mount Kenya is Africa’s second-highest mountain and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A guided day hike on its lower slopes climbs through montane forest and bamboo towards the moorland zone, where giant groundsels and lobelias begin to appear.

It is a good introduction for walkers who want the mountain’s scenery without a multi-day summit trek, and it can be combined with a Laikipia safari.

Highlights

  • Forest, bamboo and moorland zones
  • Views of the jagged peaks when clear
  • No multi-day commitment

Good to know

Best for
Keen walkers and Laikipia add-ons
When to go
Best in the drier months, roughly January–February and July–October.
Practical note
Altitude makes the walk harder than it looks. Bring warm layers and rain gear.
