About This Experience
Mount Longonot is a dormant stratovolcano rising 2,776 metres above the Great Rift Valley floor. This guided hike takes you up the steep outer slopes to the rim, then follows the crater edge for spectacular 360-degree views.
The 3.5-km ascent follows a well-maintained trail through montane forest and open volcanic scree. Your guide will point out indigenous plants and bird species and explain the geological forces that shaped this dramatic landscape.
Wildlife encountered along the trail includes zebra, giraffe, eland, and buffalo. Olive baboons and colobus monkeys are frequently seen in the forest section. A picnic lunch at the crater rim is included. Moderate fitness is required.
