About this experience

Twyfelfontein, in Damaraland, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with one of the largest concentrations of rock engravings in Africa. Created by hunter-gatherer communities over thousands of years, the carvings show animals such as rhino, giraffe and lion, as well as footprints and symbols.

Local guides lead short walks between the sandstone slabs and explain the art’s meaning and history.
