Gombe Stream Chimpanzee Trek

Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania

About this experience

Gombe Stream is where Jane Goodall began her pioneering chimpanzee research in 1960. This small, steep park on the shores of Lake Tanganyika is reached only by boat.

Guided treks follow forest trails to habituated chimpanzee communities, with a strictly limited time once they are found. Olive baboons, red colobus and red-tailed monkeys are also commonly seen.

Highlights

  • Chimpanzee research heritage
  • Boat-only access across Lake Tanganyika
  • Other primates on the trails
