Mount Meru Trek, Arusha National Park

Arusha National Park, Tanzania

About this experience

Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest peak, rises inside Arusha National Park. Treks usually take three or four days, starting among giraffe and buffalo on the lower slopes, passing through forest and continuing to a knife-edge crater rim and summit with views across to Kilimanjaro.

An armed park ranger accompanies every group because of the wildlife. Many trekkers use Meru as preparation for Kilimanjaro.

Highlights

  • Wildlife on the lower slopes
  • Knife-edge crater rim
  • Excellent Kilimanjaro acclimatisation
